First off. Kid loves this bed.I picked it because it was one of the only loft beds that has the height to actually put stuff under. Those other ones with 23-25” underneath, it would be hard for a child to play under there, let along put things. The point, at least to me, for a loft bed is to have more useable room… ya know. For activities. To those that are taking half a day or more to build this. I think maybe the reason is because you’re using hand tools, and/or supplied Allen key.FORGET THAT. Get your drill motor (screw gun) but it SHOULD have a clutch, and use it accordingly. That way you don’t overtighten and strip out the wood or hardware. If you don’t have one, you should already have one, hit up Harbor Freight, buy one first. Charge the batteries. (I used a full battery and part of a second one for the whole job.) You’re welcome.I built the whole thing by myself in just under 3.5 hours, after work and cooking/eating dinner. Take your time when building it. Pay attention to the orientation of the other holes in the part your screwing together. Meaning, when you’re screwing a new piece together and you notice only one side has dowl pin holes, you probably shouldn’t point that side toward the floor.Look ahead in the steps to see what might go there…you’ll save yourself. That said, the only thing I had to swap was the main bed frame supports. The number of pilot holes for the guard railing; I didn’t catch that one frame support had 2 holes, while the other has 1.The one with 2 is the “front” or side with the slide. Not a big deal using the drill motor, took me 5 min to swap. The included instructions for the stair frame build are fine, BUT not for the actual building of the draw enclosures. That was awful. The uploaded document here is better. But I still did not understand the magnetic catches until it was completely built.I suggest screwing all the doors and steps on first. Then marking where the doors close and attach the magnet catches in the appropriate spot for good alignment. It’ll make it a little more cumbersome but I think it’s worthwhile that way.The step pilot holes did not quite align with the screw inserts, don’t be afraid to lean/pull/push on the stair frame to get those to align.Get all the step bolts started before screwing them tight.Once it’s all tightened up it won’t matter. Another major point to look for when you’re building it.The pilot holes for the large lag screws (the ones that require the Allen key) pay attention to which side has the countersink. That’s the side that the lag screw starts from, so the head of the screw can be flush with the exterior of the wood. That should clear up a lot of the backwards mounting issues right there. When you’re installing the mattress slats, I flush mounted the first one to the support bracket, you’ll want about 3 1/8” to 3 3/16” gap between the slats. To equally space them. That’ll get you close. It LOOKS like there are little markings for screw holes, but it didn’t work for me. So I did the math. If you want center on center measurements you take the amount of slats, in this case 14, add one and divide that into the total distance you’re looking to cover.Meaning, measure the length of the support rail. Mine was 73” and divide by 15.So 73/15=4.8”. That’s your Center on Center measurement for the slats.Screw down the first one, then measure 4.8” from the start of slat one to the start of slat 2.And so on. My one and only “complaint” and I knew this going in is I wish I could swap sides for the slide.BUT because of how the front guarding is secured, they would have to include both a right handing and left handing front guard. AND the recess for the guard rail to be inserted.Which would mean there would be a rough opening on the side the kid would be exiting the bed to slide down. But maybe for small fee they could include that option with a plug to cover that hole on the side you don’t use. What kid wouldn't want to slide out of bed every morning?! Not great for rolling toy cars down as they bounce off the wood at the bottom and knick it right away. Love the storage steps too, they hold a LOT. Only issue was one of the doors had the hardware attached to the wrong side, so it had to be put on backwards... the only problem was that it was a different shade of wood than the rest, otherwise works fine. Customer service was excellent and since they couldn't send only a replacement door, they did issue a generous refund! (We also could have elected to get a whole new bed, but it took my husband an entire afternoon to assemble the first one so that wasn't gonna happen ?)!This bed is beautiful. It looks like a much pricier piece of furniture. It is solid and stable. The directions to put it together are some of the worst we have seen. We love it now but almost didn’t survive getting to this point. Have someone in your family or friend’s who has an instinctive knack for this stuff. You will need to just deduce how to proceed. We love it though.Bed is perfect for our son. He is only 3, will be 4 in December. He slept in it once but we mostly got it for him to enjoy being in his room. There were some parts of the bed that came scratched and slightly damaged. We figured it wasn’t worth having the whole thing returned so i give it 4 stars. Otherwise easy to assemble with 2 people.Well, three days later we have it assembled and are very happy with it. However, save yourself the trouble, headaches and copious amounts of wine you will require..pay someone to assemble this bed. The instructions are the most convoluted, ridiculous pictures. Also, only build one side at a time or you will be taking it apart over and over and over again. To whoever made this assembly book, I would think you are the chief designer of purgatory. Include written directions, that would be helpful. Overall, we are happy now that this project is over.We bought this a few weeks back. In less than 2 weeks of use, a piece is broken. I cannot find any contact information for the manufacturer to get a replacement. Any help is much appreciated!Kid loves it. Fresh way to start day by sliding to floor. Sturdy design, some pieces not labeled properly but was able to figure out.It is made of good wood and was fairly easy to assemble.
